International Graphite’s Collie facility earns key quality assurance accreditation

In the same month it was applauded by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, International Graphite’s (ASX: IG6) Collie micronising facility has been awarded key quality-assurance certification.

The globally-recognised international standard ISO9001:2015 ensures quality management systems are in place and covers the processing, assaying and supply of graphite to agreed specifications.

Located 200 kilometres south of Perth, the Collie facility is the first downstream graphite pilot and product qualification plant in Australia.

Fundamental accreditation

“Achieving quality assurance recognition for our Collie operation is a credit to our team and illustrates our commitment to establishing a highly professional and sophisticated downstream graphite processing business,” managing director and chief executive officer Andrew Worland said.

“It is fundamental to a successful graphite operation and credibility with consumers.”

The new plant will process Australian graphite mined in the south-west of WA, a vital component in making batteries and a key link in the company’s mine-to-market development strategy.

“Processing of graphite concentrates through the qualification scale micronising facility at Collie has continued this quarter, with various products being sent for analysis to prospective customers,” Mr Worland added.

Government interest

Earlier this month, Mr Albanese gave the Collie facility the thumbs up during a first-hand inspection of its contribution to the development of Australia’s critical minerals industry.

International Graphite has secured $13.2 million in funding from the federal and WA state governments for its role in building the nation’s battery minerals capability.

The Collie facility has recently begun producing sample graphite product to be sent to potential customers in the battery materials, defence, plastics, lubricants, and aerospace industries worldwide.

International Graphite is planning to expand the operation to achieve a nameplate capacity of 4,000 tonnes of micronised products per annum.
