Thursday's broad sell-off erased the ASX 200's earlier gains, while small caps finished the week further behind.
A rising start gave way to Thursday's sell-off
The S&P/ASX 200 finished the week at 8614.4, down 0.58% from the previous Friday's close of 8665.0. The All Ordinaries also fell 0.58%, while the S&P/ASX 300 lost 0.62%. The Small Ordinaries closed at 3308.7, down 1.39% for the week.
Monday's 0.17% rise to 8679.7 came with limited participation: 31.6% of traded names advanced as banks and healthcare supported the index. The ASX 200 added 0.34% on Tuesday to close at 8709.3. That day's note said three leading companies supplied 80% of the upward market-value change among the largest index influences. On Wednesday, the index rose 0.92% to 8789.3; three large companies accounted for 66% of the upward change among the day's largest influences.
Thursday reversed those gains. The ASX 200 fell 1.99% to 8614.4 as all 12 sectors closed lower and 28.7% of traded names advanced. Three major bank detractors accounted for 59% of the downward market-value change among the day's largest index influences. Friday's closing level was also 8614.4. No Friday session note was supplied.

Technology led the weekly sector returns
Technology gained 2.77% over the week, ahead of discretionary at 1.77%, REITs at 1.36% and telecom at 1.26%. Industrials edged up 0.03%. Those weekly gains remained in place despite every sector closing lower on Thursday.
Energy recorded the largest weekly sector decline at 2.44%. Gold fell 1.71% and materials lost 1.56%, while staples declined 1.24% and financials fell 0.86%. Utilities and healthcare also finished lower, by 0.09% and 0.11% respectively. The Small Ordinaries' 1.39% weekly fall exceeded the decline in the ASX 200.

Trading updates featured among the sharpest daily moves
Codan Ltd (ASX:CDA) rose 23.93% on Tuesday after a trading update, one of the company moves highlighted in that day's concentrated market rise. Megaport Ltd (ASX:MP1) gained 9.44% in Tuesday's session. Sunrise Energy Metals Ltd (ASX:SRL) added 9.19% and Perenti Ltd (ASX:PRN) rose 8.84% on the same day.
Data#3 Ltd (ASX:DTL) gained 13.68% on Thursday following its first-half 2027 trading update, even as the wider market fell. The largest listed Thursday declines included Liontown Ltd (ASX:LTR), down 15.05%, Lynas Rare Earths Ltd (ASX:LYC), down 8.60%, and Suncorp Group Ltd (ASX:SUN), down 7.36%.
Elsewhere, Minerals 260 Ltd (ASX:MI6) fell 10.64% on Monday, when it filed its share purchase plan documents. Develop Global Ltd (ASX:DVP) declined 10.00% on Wednesday. Each of these company moves is a single-session change.
